Our trip to the Baltics included a visit to Rīga, Latvia and Tallinn, Estonia, with a four-hour bus ride between the two. Here are our highlights, but first, a lovely view from our apartment in Tallinn.
Our highlights, with some overlap between the child and 'us'
Dinner at Leib, named after Estonian black bread, in Tallinn. It’s in Old Town and specializes in farm to table local food. The staff forages for berries and mushrooms themselves.
The Central Market in Rīga. It’s been in operation since 1570 and since 1930 has been in it’s current location housed in five WWI Zeppelin Hangers. We’ve never seen so many pickles.
Old Town in Tallinn. Well preserved 15th century towers and whatnot. It's got a tiny bit of cheese for the tourists, but it's still very nice.
Art Nouveau architecture in Rīga, including a stop at the Rīga Art Nouveau Museum.
Hazel’s top highlights
Unicorn ride, trampoline, bear-mall, and a cake shop mini-break in a park in Rīga.
The Kitty AI video installation by Pinar Yoldaš at the Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn. As the video explained to Hazel, Kitty AI is our future overlord. Hazel was cool with this. We also enjoyed the video and Kumu immensely.
Salted herring everywhere!
